This was a great little gamble on our part. We are constantly looking to steer away from "tourist" places, and Red Fish nailed it.
They were very accommodating from our seating choice down to letting my MIL take home some of the bread.
Food was incredible....had the very essence of "farm to fork" feel. Job very well done.
My husband took me to Red Fish for my 63rd birthday. I ordered the blackened grouper. First off, it should be called, “half baked grouper”, as it was not cooked all the way through, so was not flaky, like it should’ve been. Also, it had next to no flavor. The chef needs to learn how to blacken fish properly, because this was certainly not blackened, and seemed more baked. Also, the way it was served didn’t help. It came in a big bowl, on top of red peas and broccoli. It was more like soup, as my fish was “swimming” in about an inch of liquid from the peas. The broccoli was good, but difficult to cut and eat, because of the long stems being in a bowl. So I left most of it. The peas also had next to no flavor. This was not what I expected to get at such a highly rated restaurant.
I also had the corn and crab chowder to start, and it was good. Not great, but not bad. The bread was excellent. My husband enjoyed his steak, which made me regret my choice. Who knew that a steak would be better than fish at a place named Red Fish?! I do appreciate the complimentary key lime pie/cheesecake, which was very good.
The ambience was good, but the live music was a little loud for such a small place. The wine cellar feel was nice and felt upscale, but the lighting was so dark, I couldn’t see if my fish was cooked through, as its texture seemed like it was not.
Overall, I feel like Red Fish was a big disappointment. If you do go, order the Filet, not the Blackened Grouper!
Had a fantastic meal at Red Fish 10.1.2023.
The blue crab dip and crab bisque were phenomenal. For entrees, we had scallops and the shrimp / crab burger.
Everything was prepared very well with the exception of the french fries (soggy).
Marissa was our server and she was excellent.
I would eat here again if visiting Hilton Head in the future.
Service was very attentive, food was just about amazing. The only thing we didn't love was the big room we were brought to didn't have the charm of the original restaurant - clearly an addition and just a big Rectangular and open room. A bit more decor in there would go a long way. But we will definitely go back and request a table in the original side.
the seafood. Red Fish Restaurant takes pride in sourcing the freshest catches, and it truly shows in the quality of each dish. The menu offers a diverse selection, from classic shrimp and grits to innovative seafood creations. The chefs' commitment to excellence is evident in the presentation and flavors of every plate.
This was our first time on Hilton Head Island. We stumbled on this place while riding around and looking for a nice place to go eat. We definitely were not disappointed. It was a Sunday night, and we did not have reservations. I walked up to the Hostess and said that we had a party of 4 and asked if it was possible to get a table. The Hostess was very pleasant and stated that she would fit us in, but it would probably be a 15 to 20-minute wait. I asked if we could wait at the bar, and she politely pointed me to the area behind her workstation.
We walked over to the bar and a female bartender with a nice smile took our drink order and served us very quickly. The bar area had seating for dining adjacent to it. There was also a female guitar player performing music in the area. The music was loud enough to be heard but soft enough to carry on a conversation with guests. The area also had a piano, which was not being used but is a sign that music is played in this area on a regular basis.
After a brief self-guided tour of the restaurant. Red Fish is made up of several rooms, each room with its own personality. There is also an extensive outside seating area. One side has an outdoor fireplace. You will be amazed at the huge selection of wines on display. This restaurant could compete with many wine stores that I have visited. I took several pictures of the inside and outside of this restaurant. You need pictures to get the real feel of this beautiful restaurant.
The Hostess came over to us within 15 minutes and guided us to a table. The table was in the bar area but as I had stated earlier the music did not deter us from carrying on conversations or enjoying our meal.
Our waitress came over to our table and greeted us. She filled our water glasses and refilled our drink orders. She was very pleasant and answered questions regarding the menu. We started with a tomato, mozzarella, and peach appetizer (which was a special), a southwestern chopped salad, and a house salad. Our main courses were Blackened Grouper, a Salmon dish, Black Angus Ribeye, and a Bone-in KC Strip Steak. All the dishes were plated and prepared to perfection. I ordered the KC Strip Steak medium rare and as you can see from the picture, it was perfect.
The meals were absolutely perfect, and the only thing left on our table were empty plates. We did not have room for dessert but the ones that passed our table looked as good as the main courses. This is a fine restaurant and you get what you pay for but you will not be disappointed. If you are looking for a special meal on Hilton Head Island, then look no further.
Came here for dinner and enjoyed the food! The menu isn’t too extensive and has some interesting dishes. Overall a great dinner restaurant, but know you are paying for the quality.
Celebrated my Dad’s 88th Birthday at Red Fish! Atmosphere, music, food were awesome. Whitney, our server, was the best of the best. Took great care of the table and my Dad, provided 5* service. My Mom paid the bill, table of 6, automatic gratuity was added and my Mom did not know that. Whitney ran out into the parking lot to tell my Mom she overpaid and would get a refund. Talk about integrity!!! Awesome job Whitney!!! Thank you very much!!
